soil

i have wrestled with this question many times over the past year and it has been ignited in my mind again this past week and i feel i should share it with you. i pray that you wrestle with it and ask God to reveal your heart.

the question is - what kind of soil am i? the question is brought from Jesus' parable in Matthew 13


“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”

now being the amazing christians we are, of course we are the good soil. how could we not be? reread the description of the good soil - it produced a crop that is thirty, sixty and even a hundred times as much as was planted. that is a lot of crop!!! i will be honest, as i pray for God to reveal my true heart it's not pretty. it is self-serving, prideful, and lazy. i will repeat - not pretty. that kind of heart does not produce a good crop.

i could end this confession/challenge with all the amazing promises of God [and there are lots] but it would only be to make me and possibly you feel better. God doesn't want me to feel better he wants me to CHANGE!
