for all those that help with vbs anywhere - thank you. every year i get all excited to play with the kids and helping them see how incredible our saviour is but every year i forget how tiring it is to keep up with a couple hundred 5-10 year olds. i [rande] don't think of myself as old or out of shape but i have to admit i wanted to take a nap every afternoon. i told myself it was because i was in charge of games and thus i was running, crawling and organizing for an intense three hours. by the last day i realized that that life of running, crawling and organizing fit every huddle leader, kitchen worker, hip hop instructor, soccer team and games. i was not alone in my tiredness. i joke [kind of], it was an awesome week. i loved every minute of it.
about 3 or 4 months ago our friend julie [sunnybrook's children's minister] asked if casey and i would mind being the mission project for this years VBS [which we now call KidsQuake]. she was so sweet when she asked - she wanted us to know that there wouldn't be a ton of money raised [around $400] but it would be great for the kids to get to connect/relate the project to me/us during that week of KQ. of course we said yes how do you turn down julie and those sweet faces.
i think julie was even surprised by how connected the kids became to the Ethiopia Adoption Project. daily the kids were asking us about the little brown baby - does he have a name? can i play with him? the questions were so different than the ones casey and i have from adults. adults want to know the cost, the time frame, the why. oh, but these children just wanted to play with him.
then the kids further amazed us by raising $888 dollars - $650 was in change. my heart cried when the teller at the bank showed me the numbers. i long to understand and see God's Kindgom like these children!
