learning

casey and i have jumped into a very fun age to parent. david is learning new things on a daily basis and understands almost everything we say. now, since we are first-timers our learning curve has been quite large as well. we have jumped into a stage that is mobile, independent [relatively anyway], strong willed and learning his boundaries, just to name a few things. we learned two new things this week that i thought were pretty funny.

1. running with a 16 month old in a jogger is harder than it looks
  • not only does he love going around corners but he likes to lean into the curve for added fun causing the 3 wheel jogger to almost tip over
  • he thinks it is fun to have mom try and sing while she's running
  • he becomes a little upset that mom didn't bring a banana for him to snack on during our outing
  • he really wants to say hi to all the people and animals that we pass by not realizing starting and stopping running is not really what mom was going for
2. time change is rough on the little man
  • getting up was off
  • going down for a nap was off
  • bedtime was a nightmare. if we had really thought about it we would have waited a little longer than normal to put him down but we didn't. so instead of the sweet goodnight kiss and a little giggle as we blew him a kiss from the doorway all we heard was screaming. we try very hard not to send him mixed signals so when we put him down we didn't want to get him back out just because he was screaming. we certainly don't want him to think that if he throws a huge fit he can get what he wants. needless to say we will know better for the next time change.
we got a sneak peak of our first photos that margo took for us. you can check them out at http://www.madiganephotography.com/blog/. honestly, i am impressed she got any photos. david was a little stinker the whole time. he didn't want to look at margo, he didn't want to sit anywhere, he didn't want to do a single thing we wanted him to. thank you margo for capturing our family in photos. we can't wait to see the rest.

here are a few pics from our everyday life

Love the family pics. Really beautiful. We really need to have some family portraits taken.

As far as the time change- you're right on both counts: it's good to put them down a bit later, making it gradual over the course of a few nights, but (IMO) you were right to stick with it once you put him down!
