Genet

my heart has been heavy for David's biological mother, Genet, the past few nights. i have awoken from sleep with her on my mind many times. we have prayed for her since we began the process of adoption knowing that letting go of a child would be incredibly hard. meeting her while in ethiopia was an incredible gift for casey and i and will greatly impact david when he is old enough to fully understand her sacrifice.

her life has never been easy. although she never said it and we didn't ask, her tired and weary face looked much older than she was and we just knew. food has been hard to come by, housing is minimal, and compassion and love freely given is only a dream. when we asked how we could pray for her the response was short "a different life". that moment with her is the one i keep replaying the last few nights. we left wishing we could take her and her daughter home with us along with david but that wasn't an option.

she is an incredible woman. far stronger than i am. she gave up her sweet baby boy for the hope that he would have a better life than she. she had no pictures of him, nor any guarantee that he would ever leave the orphanage, only her dreams for him.

there are approximately 4.6 million orphans in ethiopia. would you join me in praying for them? 1. for the families [like Genet] that have to let go
2. for families to respond and obey God's calling on them to care for the orphans
3. for God to receive all the glory in stories like ours
