Boo Baal

every night in the butler house we spend some time reading God's word together. someone gave david, The Beginner's Bible and all three of us have enjoyed it. every page has a picture which makes it easier for david to pay attention, and the combination of the children's bible and our son has helped casey and i take a few steps back and hear God like a child again. night after night we see and hear how much God loves us.

last night we read from 1 Kings 18. amazing story, go back and read the whole thing. in short, God used his prophet Elijah to reveal himself to King Ahab, King Ahab's priests and all the Israelites . God once again showed himself faithful. He is the one true God, the creator and sustainer of all things.

as we began to read the story, david kept pointing at the picture at the top of the page. we explained that the picture was of Baal [the god everyone was worshiping and crying to instead of God]. he also noticed there was a man praying to Baal in the picture and we certainly didn't want him thinking that was alright. so we created a little chant - booooo Baal [thumbs down of course], YEAH GOD [arms praising God] and it has stuck. he really enjoyed booing Baal last night and today he has done the whole chant numerous times.

casey and i pray that God will not only reveal to us the idols in our lives but give us discernment into david's idols as he grows. we long for him to continue this "chant" in some form the rest of his life - boo anything that isn't God, YEAH to a life spent praising and serving YHWH!
