the long wait
Time is hard to measure in adoption. Everything is given in ranges, let me give you a few examples. It may take 3-6 months to get paperwork finished, it may take a few weeks to a few months to get your fingerprints done, and it may take 24-36 months for you to receive a referral. What I forgot in our first adoption and again in our second adoption is the time we spent praying over the decision to adopt. In both adoptions we spent a little less than a year praying as a couple on whether this was in fact what God is asking of our family. Which means this adoption has been on our hearts and in our everyday conversations for closing in on two years quickly. Truthfully, there are days that I my mind is screaming - "what in the world are you going to do with three little boys?" and those days are easy to be thank for the long wait for #3 to be home. But other days my mind can't fathom waiting another 2 years to get our first picture of our son. Yet, I will rejoice because God is sovereign. Father, may you be glorified as we practice patience and joyfulness in the long wait.
